Information for Mums
Are you a new mum and struggling emotionally after the birth of your baby?
Do you feel low or anxious?
Or have you been advised that you have post-natal depression?
We are here to help.
We deliver free MIMS courses across Leicester city for mums who have a baby under the age of 12 months, creche for your baby is available, if needed.
During the 7 week course we provide a safe and confidential space, where you can be yourself, find comfort, and advice with other mums, who share similar stories.
It’s about kindness, shared stories, and the strength that comes from knowing you’re not alone.
With each session, you will discover your own resilience, make new connections, and nurture the belief that you are more than enough as a Mum.
Our trained and experienced co-ordinators are there to listen, reassure and to suggest ways to improve your mental health and wellbeing.

Mums In Mind Support (MIMS)
Information for Professionals
Home-Start Horizons runs a 7-week Mums in Mind (MIMS) course to support mums suffering post-natal illness, help mums and dads to improve family mental health and wellbeing and reduce isolation that occurs at this life-changing milestone. The course covers exploring and understanding what postnatal illness is, recognising the signs, birth experiences and trauma, stress management, communication and relaxation.
We have received funding from Leicester City Council
Getting Help in Neighbourhoods to deliver the MIMS post natal peer support groups.


There is an evening session for partners to help them understand PNI and reflect on their own experiences.
MIMS Referral Criteria
Mums can be referred by the health visiting team, GP, through Home-Start Horizons or mums can self refer.
- Depression or low mood occurring within first year of the baby’s birth.
- Referral within first year of baby’s birth.
Referral Process
- Referrer discusses MIMS group with mum and agrees to send off referral form.
- MIMS coordinator receives referral form and contacts mum as soon as possible. Home visits to each mum are made before the group starts.
- Coordinator and mum discuss how the group works and whether mum would find it useful. If mum agrees the coordinator arranges for her to join the next group and keeps in contact until the group starts.
- Mums will be invited by Home-Start Horizons (mums may join up to week 2).
